DOE Awards Nearly $18 Million to Four Pilot Projects Developing Advanced Drop-In Aviation, Marine Biofuels

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced April 22 that it awarded nearly US$18 million to four innovative pilot-scale biorefineries in California, Iowa and Washington that will test advanced drop-in biofuels that meet military specifications for jet fuel and shipboard diesel applications. The selected pilot-scale biorefinery projects “will demonstrate technologies to cost-effectively convert biomass into advanced drop-in biofuels and assist these organizations to scale up the processes to commercial levels,” according to the DOE in a statement.
