EIA SEES U.S. ENERGY IMPORTS AND EXPORTS COMING INTO BALANCE

The United States (U.S.) Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released its Annual Energy Outlook 2015 (AEO2015) report that updates projections for U.S. energy markets through 2040 based on six cases reflecting new scenarios for future crude oil prices. With continued growth in oil and natural gas production, growth in the use of renewable resources and the application of demand side efficiencies, the EIA projections show the potential to eliminate net U.S. energy imports in the 2020 to 2030 timeframe. The U.S. has been a net importer of energy since the 1950s. In cases with the highest supply and lowest demand outlooks, it could become a significant net exporter of energy.
