The mission of L&W is to strive for R&D activity to invent and develop measuring equipments with most suitable measuring methodology for Pulp and Paper industry to optimize production and stabilize quality.rnStacking ability is quite important for corrugated board box, which is created by compressive strength of the components of corrugated board box like liner and corrugated medium. Hens, compressive strength of these grades has to be measured frequently at the mill. The method of Ring Crush Test (RCT) had been traditionally and commonly used for measuring compressive strength of these grades on the globe. In late of 1980, new method of which name is Short Span Compressive Test (SCT) was invented by Dr. Christer Fellers of STFI (Swedish Pulp and Paper Institute, present name is Invventia), and this testing instrument of SCT was developed by L&W in cooperation with Dr. C. Fellers. And then SCT has become the representative testing method of compressive strength in stead of RCT in the leading countries of Pulp and Paper industry in Europe and North America except Japan, because the method of SCT has more advanced and qualified metrology than RCT to analyze and evaluate compressive strength for modern low grammage grades. In fact, in these countries, the measured value of SCT authorized by ISO in 1989 has been attached to the commercial products to assure the first quality.rnIt is assumed that the day of JIS authorizing SCT will come soon, so that many paper mills and box converters have been recently often calling to developer of SCT, L&W, to ask for the details of SCT because of important test. So, in order to meet surrounding requests and demands concerning for SCT, its method and comparison against RCT are introduced into this journal.
