The resources and waste industry is used to a strong regulatory framework. Many have raised concerns about the potential for this to be dismantled as we leave the EU, allowing investment to leak from the sector, recycling rates to dwindle, and waste crime to flourish. Defra is, therefore, frantically trying to finalise its Environment Bill to avoid these and similar environmental risks, and provide a legal footing for the ambitions set out in the 25-year Environment Plan.
