Recycling and home composting in Milton Keynes

In 1990, Milton Keynes Council piloted a kerbside opt-in recycling scheme and expanded this to the whole borough by 1992. Any property in Milton Keynes except certain multiple-occupancy properties can have red and blue boxes for recycling, but they must apply to the council by freepost mail, telephone or e-mail to get them. Certain flats, sheltered housing and some other multiple occupancy properties have red and blue wheelie bins or mini-recycling centres instead of the red and blue boxes, but not all multiple occupancy properties have recycling facilities.
