In his budget speech Chancellor Gordon Brown made few references to wastes management,the notable exception being that landfill tax will rise by ￡8 per tonne each year from 2008,therefore reaching the ￡40 per tonne figure that many believe is required to make any significant impact on reducing the volumes of waste sent to landfill.
