THIS YEAR'S survey of the UK's organic recycling industry has shown that source segregated inputs to composting and anaerobic digestion (AD) sites has risen to an all-time high of 5.1 m tonnes - a 14 percent increase on last year and a five-fold increase on the quantity of organic wastes composted since 1998.rnIn addition the survey showed that open-air windrow composting accounted for 79 percent of the biological treatment being carried out, but both AD and in-vessel composting showed significant levels of growth, processing almost 1 m tonnes of feedstock annually.
