Localism Can't Come Soon Enough!

Delivering waste infrastructure, especially residual waste treatment facilities, has always been a challenge. Now something new is coming that is likely to change the way we engage with communities forever. It is more than 400 pages long, contains 207 separate clauses and is known as the Localism Bill.The more cynical have already dubbed this piece of legislation "the NIMBY's charter", but this is unfair. The Localism Bill is still embryonic and has a lot of parliamentary procedure to go, so the outcome is still largely unknown. Its intent, however, is to underpin the Coalition Government's move to return power to local communities and create the "Big Society". It aims to reduce bureaucracy and increase local control, empowering communities to make decisions for themselves through a referendum process, amongst other things.
