Sardinia 2013 is the 14th in the series of biennial Sardinia Symposia, organised by the International Waste Working Group (IWWG). It took place in the Forte Village resort, Sardinia, Italy, from 30 September to 4 October 2013. When about a dozen passionate international waste managers first arranged a landfill conference at Forte Village in 1987, with invited speakers, and were then surprised to have about 400 delegates, few could have imagined how big and influential the biennial "Sardinia" would become. This time, 760 delegates from 63 countries arrived to spend an intensive week, with eight parallel lecture streams for 5 days from 9am to 7.40pm, following an initial day of international training courses. Days then concluded with late night networking in the various open air restaurants by the beach, in the beautiful conference village.
