摘要

Last month we witnessed the Labour Party significantly backtrack when it conies to its commitment to UK waste management. The party announced that it will no longer consider imposing a ban on food waste sent to landfill as part of its 2015 election manifesto. Put simply, this is hugely disappointing to hear, both for the waste management sector and the country as a whole. There's no escaping from the fact that we are nearing landfill capacity. We are likely to reach current limits in around three years if we continue to send the same amount of waste to landfill, so it's critical we see action now to increase recycling figures before it's too late. It's also very frustrating because this news comes off the back of an exciting 12 months for the UK's anaerobic digestion (AD) sector. We have made great progress in terms of increasing food waste recycling levels and demonstrating that AD is a pivotal part of the national energy landscape.
