While France has just legislated to require supermarkets to donate unsold food and the US has set a national target for halving food waste by 2030, the most common criticism of my Food Waste (Reduction) Bill is that legislation just isn't necessary. The Government has said that voluntary approaches are delivering results, and it wants to build on this progress. A new agreement by the groceries sector for reducing its food waste - Courtauld 2025 - will be announced in the coming weeks.
