Emergency Stop

Just as the weather was looking bright and sunny, the lovely little Yorkshire town of Skipton was strafed by one of those sideways rain showers that ensures you even get wet under your jacket. While it was soon sunny again, the roads were now covered in a slippery sheen. "Perfect," suggested Steve Parkinson of Craven District Council, as he raised the workshop doors and fired-up one of Craven's Dennis Eagle Elites. Not any old Elite, mind; this one is fitted with the prototype "Anti-Glasgow" device. While my emotions are a mix of deja vu (at being back in Skipton so soon) and joy (at being back in such a lovely part of the world), my mission today is tinged with sadness. Because this time I'm here as a result of the Glasgow binwagon disaster - still fresh in all our minds due to the number of people killed and the fact that the public enquiry had only just published its findings, just before my return visit.
