Waste crime takes many forms. From fly-tipping of household waste to large-scale dumping and illegal export of waste, we have seen a rise in more serious criminality over the past decade. The UK produces around 200m tonnes of waste a year and, unfortunately, there are people who see illegal disposal of sometimes dangerous waste as an opportunity to make money This has a detrimental impact on communities and landowners, undercuts legitimate operators, and costs millions of pounds in non-payment of permit and disposal costs.
