City of London RCV fleet goes electric Waste-management company Veolia is operating the UK's first all-electric fleet of refuse collection vehicles through a new contract with the City of London. Started on 6 April, the contract includes waste collection, street cleaning and ancillary services. The Welsh government has created a Circular Economy Fund of £6.5m to promote the use of recycled materials in manufactured products, components or packaging among businesses. The fund will help Wales fulfil its goal of 70 per cent recycling by 2025 and 100 per cent by 2050. Scotland's proposed deposit return scheme (DRS) will cover aluminium and steel cans, as well as glass drink containers and PET plastic. Customers will be charged a 20p deposit on the sale of products covered by the scheme, which will be redeemable when they are collected for reuse or recycling. One in four Northern Ireland householders is unhappy with the way their council has asked them to recycle household waste, according to a new survey by Lucid Talk. But satisfaction is higher (81 per cent) among those whose council offers 'commingled' recycling, where plastic and tins can be mixed with glass.
