Lake Ontario to Cool Downtown Toronto

A new deep-water cooling system will soon be providing Toronto with cleaner drinking water and a more efficient, environmentally friendly coolant. The Can$110 million system, designed by the Toronto District Heating Corp. (TDHC) and Toronto Water Supply (TWS), will build a 2.6 km long pipe to draw 4C water from 70 m below the surface of Lake Ontario. The pipe will send 260,000 m~3 of water per day to the Metro Island Treatment Plant.
