With regard to your News story "Conceptual Design Opens Door for Pennsylvania Avenue Traffic," published in the January issue, your readers should know that this proposal by the Federal City Council (FCC) is one of many recent proposals, but certainly better funded, to reopen the avenue. Although any effort to correct this blight on the nation's capital, for which traffic is the least concern, is welcomed, there are problems with this scheme for those of us who have been working on this problem ever since the hasty closing of the avenue by President Clinton.
