The federal government is the largest consumer of design services in the United States, and the Presidential Awards for Design Excellence, bestowed in the fourth year of each presidential term since 1984, are the only governmen-twide recognition of excellence in federal design. The following nine award-winning projects for 2000 were chosen from among 338 submissions made by more than 70 federal agencies.
