Toronto Brings Biosolids Recycling Program on Stream

The city of Toronto is abandoning its biosolids incinerators, located at the Ashbridges Bay Treatment Plant, in favor of a more environmentally friendly recycling program, one involving drying and pel-letizing, as well as direct land application. The three-year, Can$93-million (U.S.$62-million) construction effort has created one of the largest beneficial use programs for biosolids in North America. The plant produces about 50,000 dry metric tons of biosolids annually.
