California Academy of Sciences Is 'Growing'

The 12 buildings housing the California Academy of Sciences, located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, have been in dire need of renovation since 1989, when the Loma Prieta earthquake damaged most of them beyond repair. Architects with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, of Genoa, Italy, and Chong Partners Architecture, of San Francisco, along with consulting engineers in the San Francisco office of Arup, are collaborating to create a single structure that will replace the 12 damaged buildings and expand the academy's exhibition and research facilities.
