Covered Bridge under Construction in Ohio Will Set Record

Construction of what will be the longest covered bridge in the United States is under way in northeast Ohio and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2008. With a length of 600 ft (182.9 m) and an interior width of 30 ft (9.1m), the two-lane bridge over the Ashtabula River will be able to accommodate approximately 2,000 vehicles per day. It will become the 17th covered bridge in Ashtabula County, which hosts an annual festival celebrating these structures.
