摘要

The materials available on the lunar surface suggest that construction there may not require the delivery of massive payloads from Earth. In fact, through ingenuity and resourcefulness human colonization might be accomplished more easily than previously thought. As the nation prepares to return to the moon and, later, to travel to Mars, the use of in situ materials for constructing long-term habitats makes eminent sense as a way of reducing the mass and volume of launch payloads.
