A unique U-shaped, or "horseshoe," steel truss is helping to create the undulating form of the Lans-downe Road Stadium, which is under construction in Ireland's capital. The 50,000-seat stadium is being erected on the site of the smaller Lansdowne Road-demolished in 2007-the traditional home of Irish rugby since the 1870s and, more recently, the home of Ireland's national soccer team, explains Fergus McCormick, CEng, a structural engineering leader of Buro Happold, the international multidisciplinary consultancy that is responsible for the project's structural engineering. The new stadium was designed by the London office of the international sports architecture firm HOK Sport and by the Dublin-based firm Scott Tallon Walker Architects. Project Management Group, also based in Dublin, is providing project management services.
