The Federal Highway Administration (fhwa) has initiated a program focused on highway bridges in the United States. Conceived as a way of learning more about how bridges perform under the complex and interrelated stresses to which they are subjected during their lifetimes, the Long-Term Bridge Performance Program (ltbp program) will begin with a five-year study led by the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (cait), which is located on the campus of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The contract issued by the fhwa for the study is worth up to $25.5 million.
