Water Resources Development Act Of 2010 Clears First Hurdle in House

Passed by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in late July, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2010 (H.R. 5892) would seek to limit the role of private industry in handling certain functions involving navigation or hy-dropower facilities operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and would increase funding for maintenance dredging at ports and harbors. The Water Resources Development Act has traditionally been passed by Congress roughly every two years in order to authorize projects and set the policies for the Corps, but H.R. 5892 is silent on the issue of a national levee safety program.
