HAVING NEVER BEEN A CITY of the traditional or the typical, Las Vegas was probably the ideal location for a design team faced with a challenging site to take a - chance on an innovative structural solution. Among the difficulties faced by the designers of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas resort was the site's relatively small size: just 7 to 8 acres for a 6.5 million sq ft complex, compared with the 30 to 35 acres for the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, a complex of similar size that is located nearby.
