Congress Must Act Quickly to Avoid Another FAA Shutdown

AFTER THE partial shutdown of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in late July and early August, infrastructure advocates are calling on Congress to complete the long-delayed process of reauthorizing the federal aviation program before it expires again in mid-September. Failing that, aviation interests hope that Congress will pass legislation temporarily extending the aviation program in a more timely manner than occurred earlier in the summer. Otherwise, construction projects at airports around the country could face additional interruptions, and the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which provides federal funding for aviation infrastructure, could experience another significant loss of revenues.
