The European Green Deal sets the ambitious target of reducing transport CO_2 emissions by 2050 to help make Europe the world's first climate-neutral continent. To get there, it also commits the Commission to presenting the Strategy of Sustainable and Smart Mobility that sets out how this target will be achieved. We will present this strategy before the end of the year, outlining a path to a clean, digital and modern transport sector. The context has changed since the Green Deal was launched in December 2019, with many transport operators having been hit hard by months of reduced travel. The sector has experienced job and income loss on an unprecedented scale.
