THE construction industry, like many others, is in a battle to reduce costs, improve efficiency and retain a competitive edge in terms of delivery of service and customer satisfaction. Recent advancements in mobile technology provide new avenues for addressing this situation. In any industry, admin can be a laboured process, but it is especially true in construction. There are numerous vendors and several teams involved in each project. With them all having their own responsibilities, keeping track of the reporting process can cost workers over seven hours per week in wasted admin time. Roughly 18% of their working time. Despite our lives continuing to be transformed by phone-based technology both professionally and privately, 60-70% of construction companies are still not dealing with digitalisation at all. In the UK, productivity in the sector has been stagnant for decades, where over a third of construction projects overrun on time (40%) or budget (35%). Mobile and tablet-based technology can hold the key for construction to beat its 20-year long productivity slump.
