Developments and Challenges of PCB Mechanical Drilling- A Review

Driven by the increasing need for mobile phones, digital cameras and video records, computers and notebooks, automobiles, and other electronics devices, the worldwide PCB industry is experiencing inspiring development. It is predicted by PRISMARK that the average year-on-year growth rate will be around six percent worldwide from 2006 to 2010. The main development drive comes from Asia, especially in China, where the growth rate is around 14 percent. The development of the China PCB market is illustrated in Figure 1. It is estimated that China will become the largest PCB manufacturing country at the end of 2006. Among those PCBs, high-densityrninterconnection (HDI) PCBs, IC substrates, and flexible PCBs are stars that will contribute a lot to the increasing demand of PCBs.
