NEUROCHEMISTRY IN CHINA

The scientific investigations about the nervous system in the field of life science were started from the 1920's, however, biochemical studies on nervous system were carried out rather late in China. Up to the 1950's a few reports concerning the biochemical detections on nervous disorders had appeared in the medical literature. The Cooperative Group of Neurochemistry was established formally in 1983, and the periodical 'Newsletter on Neurochemistry' was published in 1984. However, the national meeting on clinical neurochemistry has been held regularly since 1986; therefore, four successive sessions have already been accomplished to date. The Chinese Society of Neurochemistry, small but active, has some scientific connections and exchanges with more than twenty countries and districts, has also joined in many activities with the International Society (ISN) and the Asian—Pacific Society for Neurochemistry (APSN).
