A clinical study on changes in coagulation status after injuries to the extremities

Free tissue autograft is an effective means to repair major soft tissue defects of extremities. Emergent flap coverage by microsurgery will curtail the duration of the treatment and facilitate early function recovery. However, trauma could induce hypercoagulability which could be fatal to emergent free flap transplantation. To correlate the severity of trauma and the tendency to hypercoagulability, we chose the patients who suffered from open injuries to the extremities, including those who needed emergency reconstruction with microsurgery, and studied the serial changes in coagulation and anti-coagulation system at different posttraumatic stages. We tried to find a solution to screen out the patients at risk of thrombosis, and to enhance the probability of success of emergent microsurgery.
