Judge Wang Chung-hui at the Permanent Court of International Justice

As the predecessor of the International Court of Justice at The Hague, the Permanent Court of International Justice was a pioneering institution blessed with brilliant lawyers. One of the important figures was Mr Wang Chung-Hui. In 1922, Wang came to the Permanent Court as his country's foremost jurist; ultimately, he was to exercise notable influence on his colleagues as well as landmark decisions of the Permanent Court. This article seeks to introduce Wang Chung-hui as the first Chinese member of the World Court. Wang's success as an international judge may suggest that the Permanent Court, and international law of the period, cannot be distinguished on the ground that it was peculiarly Eurocentric.
