For years, the use of H_2 receptor antagonists (H_2RA) has lowered the recurrence of peptic ulcer (PU). But in some patients, resistant and recurrent PU may result in hemorrhaging, perforations, obstructions and carcinogenesis, which require emergency surgery. To find effective modalities is still an important problem in the treatment of resistant PU. From 1988 to 1991, the authors successfully treated 260 patients with resistant PU by means of local injection of traditional Chinese medicine associated with oral administration of Chuanjiaweidan.
