LIQUID BACKMIXING AND CIRCULATION IN RECTANGULAR DOWNCOMER

(1) In a rectangular downcomer on a circular DJ tray, liquid backmixing is significant. (2) Circular flow exists in the middle of the downcomer. It is a kind of delayed parallel flow. (3) Backmixing at the center of the rectangular downcomer is much similar to that at the two ends. (4) While backmixing increases with increasing liquid rate, the effect of gas rate on backmixing is less significant. (5) Downcomer self-sealing plays a very important part in weakening the circulation.
