Industry representatives, environmental officials and other stakeholders are urging US lawmakers to authorize a risk-based method for prioritizing chemicals as part of any statutory changes to the 1976 Toxics Substances Control Act (TSCA), although chemical manufacturers do not have a uniform position on how the statute should be updated. Meanwhile, EPA will target chemicals for review based on their use in consumer products; presence in human blood; persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic characteristics; toxicity; and production volume.
