Supply-chain efficiency will be increasingly important for the chemical industry over the next 10 years as the manufacturing footprint shifts and demand increases, while flow patterns change and resources are constrained following the lessons learned during the recent recession. Companies can make their supply chains more efficient and therefore more sustainable during the next decade by using real-time data to optimize efficiency on a dynamic short-term or daily basis, says Philip Browitt of Agility Chemicals, chairman of the EPCA supply chain program committee. Greater collaboration among producers, and between producers and logistics service providers, has been identified by various industry studies as key to supply-chain optimization.
