High-grade cast metal has been produced by melting a consumable electrode in a synthetic flux system. The corrosion resistance of specimens made by CEC is higher by factors of 1.8 or 1.4 than that of specimens correspondingly from forgings and rollings on the one hand and specimens made by vacuum-induction melting on the other. The CEC metal has a fine-grained structure, high chemical homogeneity, absence of foreign inclusions, air bubbles, shakes, and cracks, and also low contents of sulfur and phosphorus.
