CLASSIFICATION AND APPLICABILITY OF TYPES OF SHAFT SEALS

It is proposed that all structural solutions of seal couplings employed in modem practice for the shafts of rotary machines be divided into the following four groups: contact, contact-grooved, non-contact-grooved, and plate. Applicability parameters of all couplings designed for shaft seals are described. Their advantages and disadvantages are noted.
