The effects of the miscibility-to-extraction temperature ratio (T_m/T_E) and the amount of antisolvent have been investigated with special reference to solvent selectivity, refining power and the overall processing solvent index (K_(PSI)). It has been observed that, for every solvent, there exists an optimum value of T_m/T_E, where the maximum qualitative and quantitative improvement could be obtained. The importance of the index K_(PSI) in solvent extraction has been emphasized and this index has been used for the optimization of important process parameters, such as the miscibility-to-extraction temperature ratio T_m/T_E and the amount of antisolvent. A regression analysis approach has also been made to correlate the overall processing solvent index with the miscibility-to-extraction temperature ratio.
