Three anthracene rings connected by m-phenylene spacers with hydroxy groups generate isolable trans- and cis-atropisomers whose interconversion is solvent sensitive and can be activated at room temperature by an external stimulus (base).rnRotation around an aryl-aryl single bond is a fundamental molecular motion.
