An obvious enhanced phosphorescence emission in the solid state (EPESS) was observed for two iridium(III) complexes with restricted (even fixed) intramolecular rotational motion, which is contrary to the opinion ("restricted intramolecular rotational motion as the origin of EPESS") of Park et al., and our observation confirmed that the n-n stacking of adjacent pyridyl rings of ppy ligands played a key role in EPESS.rnWe appreciate the comments by Park et al. on the subject of our communication. In our paper, we reported enhanced phosphorescence emission in the solid state (EPESS) from two heteroleptic iridium(III) complexes Ir(ppy)_2(DBM) and Ir(ppy)_2(SB) [DBM = l,3-diphenyl-l,3-propanedione; SB = 2-(naphthalen-l-yliminomethyl)-phenol)]. The π-π stacking of adjacent pyridyl rings of 2-phenylpyridinyl (ppy) ligands was used to explain the EPESS, on the basis of X-ray diffraction studies as well as theoretical calculations of the single crystal of Ir(ppy)_2(DBM).
