摘要

The creation of multifunctional, environmentally friendly and renewable materials is currently an extremely important challenge for any high-tech application. One of the best examples of such materials is ionic liquids (ILs) composed entirely of ions which melt below 100 ℃. These salts are generally composed of discrete ions and may be designed for specific applications by incorporation of functionalities (task-specific ionic liquids) in one or both ions as well as by the choice of cation-anion combination. Metal-containing ionic liquids represent new materials which combine the properties of ionic liquids with magnetic, electrochemical, optical or catalytic properties that originate from the metal incorporated in the compound. A particular example of contemporary magnetic materials are Single Chain Magnets (SCMs) or Single Ion Magnets (SIM).
