摘要

The water solution of an intriguing luminescent 'Inorganic Co-crystal' of Cu(Ⅱ) monomeric and dimeric units shows extremely selective sensing ability towards inorganic arsenic(Ⅲ) in water medium in the pico-molar concentration range even in the presence of other cations. Arsenic pollution in ground water is a worldwide environmental danger! More than 100 million human beings are suffering from arsenic contamination in drinking water mostly in West Bengal (India) and Bangladesh along with 20 other nations all over the world. A recent study has indicated that arsenic contamination is rapidly spreading over a large area of North-East India through ground water. Arsenic causes several major health hazards including dermal changes, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and carcinogenic effects, etc. and it may even cause liver, bladder and lung cancer.
