Seattle-based Air Cargo Management Group (ACMG, Cargo Facts' parent) has just completed the annual update of its Twenty-Year Freighter Aircraft Forecast. The forecast was prepared in support of the company's Annual Workshop on Air Cargo, Express and Freighter Aircraft that will be held May 2-3 in Atlanta. This year ACMG has developed separate high-growth and low-growth forecasts based on differing assumptions regarding future demand for global air cargo services. A "high growth" scenario, which assumes 5% annual growth in demand for air freight services, predicts that the global fleet of freighter aircraft will more than double from roughly 1,600 units early in 2011, to nearly 3,500 units at the end of 2030. Taking into account fleet growth due to added demand, coupled with the need to replace existing freighters that will be retired, results in demand for nearly 3,100 freighters through 2030.
