SHANGHAI – Last month, a record crowd of senior executives from all facets of the air cargo industry gathered in Shanghai for Cargo Facts Asia 2019. Delegates were enlightened by insights from presenters and speakers who discussed a wide range of pertinent topics ranging from the state of the market, to reform of Chinese carriers, and the future of air cargo in the Asia-Pacific region. Despite a rocky start to 2019, optimistic sentiments were still plentiful, with many delegates expecting a stronger second half of the year. Although the ongoing trade war between the United States and China has weakened demand on some trans-Pacific routes, demographics in Asia remain healthy, and consumer-driven import markets remain poised for long-term growth. Further out into the future, consumer supply chains increasingly centered around online sales is expected to continue driving demand for express shipments, and the freighters that carry them.
