For most in Washington, addressing the debt ceiling was beginning to feel like a merry-go-round ride that is impossible to exit. Following a government shutdown lasting 16 days in October, Congress extended the nation's borrowing authority through February 7, but rather than issuing another short-term extension in February, Congress did something unexpected: eliminate the debt limit until March of 2015. Whether rational or irresponsible, the move certainly clears up floor time typically spent debating philosophical beliefs that will seemingly never line up.
