While Sagem Orga didn't lead the smart card's industry's reorganization, ifs certainly not alone. In fact, all of the industry's vendors are making major cuts. All of the industry's major vendors are moving as much production and research and development as possible to low-cost countries while trying to create a market beyond cards-for other security tokens and more software and services. This proposed market ranges from such devices as USB tokens that secure e-commerce to fee-based services for downloading and managing payment and ticketing applications on NFC mobile phones. And it includes more profitable SIMs storing the NFC applications or securing mobile-TV service, as well as ID cards or tokens that work with Microsoft's Vista operating system. While this market has promise, it still makes up only a minuscule percentage of revenue for the top five vendors.
