2050 goal: a carbon-neutral Nordic region?

A new report by the International Energy Agency suggests that the Nordic region could become carbon neutral by 2050, if major changes are made in its energy sector. The 'Nordic Energy Technology Perspectives' report outlines how the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden can use their extensive renewable energy resources to decarbonize their power sectors and electrify transport. In the short term, improved energy efficiency will account for much of the emissions reductions. In the long term, many different approaches will have to be examined in order to meet the target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
