Carbon farming: the best and safest way forward?

Few would now disagree that we must reduce levels of atmospheric CO_2 if we are to avoid catastrophic changes in our climate. In the medium- to long-term we must produce less CO_2, but changing to lower carbon technologies takes time - time we do not have. We, therefore, need to create a 'breathing space' by removing CO_2 from the atmosphere to curb the current rising trend, and also to remove the CO_2 we have pumped into the atmosphere already. But how can this be achieved? To date, two main approaches have been championed - the physical and the biological.
