Last year, in anticipation of the RatRod Rally to Romania (CM, September 2011 to January 2012), I bought my team a 1978 Morris Marina 1.8 Deluxe. Only once I'd got the car road legal (I hesitate to use the term 'roadworthy') did the full horror of what I'd purchased dawn on me. So desperate was I not to lose face, I hunted down a retired BL chassis engineer to advise how to make the wretched thing tolerable. Upon being told that what I was attempting was akin to pushing water uphill, I looked to get out of it and, crucially, get my money back.
